Cimbali MAX Hybrid vs. MACAP MXKR Conical

Grinders are one of the keys to exceptional espresso. Discuss them here.

Currently I own a Nuova Simonelli MDX (64mm) and it is the only grinder I have owned in my 1 year of brewing on my Izzo Alex HX machine.

If I had one complaint on my grinder is the clumpiness, huge hopper, huge chute and beat up looks.
I bought it used from a 2nd owner who got it from a shop. Burrs were changed, but this thing looks 10 years old.

What I love is the little knob adjuster, I have never used the 'around the neck' style so prevalent on so many machines but I don't need to, I know I will like the little knob more.

Anyways we have two grinders that are only 100$ apart.

Now I know that the MACAP MXKR Conical is a superb value when compared to other Conical models, It's at least 300 cheaper if memory serves me right than Mazzer Kony; forget about the 1400$ Compak Conical.

The Cimbali Max is a "no-brainer" when compared with say a Mazzer Jolly or any other 64mm Burr Grinders.

My bias is the Cimbali because it has the little knob I like so much from my Nuova Simonelli MDX.
It also would match my chrome machine perfectly.

At the same time the MXKR has always been a great deal, and I have never heard the the Cimbali Hybrid system was "better" than strait Conical.

My assumption is for me, a person more concerned with perfect looking extractions as my taste buds are a bit less evolved than most people on this site that I won't experience a life changing difference between the two so I should go with which one is better by build quality and usability (ie hate the idea of a timer).

So my question goes out to all the mad espresso scientists here:
If you were to compete for shot quality and had to choose between the two grinders, which would you go for?

I truly appreciate any and all opinions as I will take the ones I get here will ultimately help me decide.
Im getting my first welfare check (better known as stimulus check) and want to spend it on one of my favorite American Entrepreneurs and Innovators, Chris Coffee :P

I have no experience with either, but I remember seeing a post here recently (or at CG) saying that the MXKR leaves a lot of residual grinds in the machine that are difficult to clean out, so you might want to consider that. The post was fairly recent.

I might have been one of the people that noted the amount of residual grinds left in the MX. The discharge chute is significantly larger than the other grinders I have owned (Macap M5 & MazzerMini doser version). The larger diameter burr and larger chute end up holding significantly more residual coffee than the M5 & Mini. No more difficult to clean out than the M5 or Mini. After a quick swipe with a brush, pulse and brush again the chute and burr assembly as visualized from the top and through the chute is as clean as any other side discharging conical. The larger discharge chute actually makes cleaning easier. Real happy with the MX. The M5 is now the backup grinder. The old trustworthy Mini is for sale.

I was torn between those 2 grinders (well, the M7KR rather than the MX), and I went for the Macap. The thing that clinched for me was mostly aesthetics. The design of the Macap demands a lot of counterspace whereas the Cimbali looks designed to fit snugly on a busy bar counter, and I personally prefer the more flamboyant design. I'm very happy with it, although I plan to get a Versalab at some point in the future. I'll probably keep the Macap anyway, and that was another factor since to me it makes some sense to keep a big conical like the M7/MX after getting a Versalab, but it wouldn't make sense to keep a Cimbali Hybrid.

I like the big chute. It does retain some grounds, sure, but it's easy to wipe it out with a brush.
