Great pix Dan...I can't move my knob at all...if I loosen it the slightest, that thin silver piece between the "stars" will slip out of the little groove and rotate wildly....I don't have the little wire for scraping the sides...
Yes, fast manipulation of the doser lever vibrates things enough to extricate the coffee and break up lumps.
I tried the cup mod to keep the grind off the center shelf, but i couldn't figure out how to keep it in place.

I've been meaning to repost this for the FAQs and Favorites, thanks for the reminder: Improving Mazzer doser efficiency.

No...thank YOU

Edit....first time I've seen that mod pictured.....very cool.
I do the "Jason Move"....when no one is looking, take a deep breath and blow a big puff of air inside the doser...that'll get stuff outta there  YMMV
That's about as technical as my truly limited abilities will allow.

Sorry to dense, but what exactly is accomplished by tightening this knob?
Is there a more or less "standard" setting?

Thanks for the other helpful answers.

Never mind! I just found the SJ manual online: http://www.wholelattelove.com/man...oduct%20Manual.pdf

I see know that tightening the knob decreases the dose.

For the record...

The lower star-shaped wheel is fixed to a rachet gear beneath the doser chamber; when you pull the handle, the ratchet advances the vanes forward. The upper half star-shaped wheel shown below fits over the fixed one; the spring pushes the upper half against the aluminum adjustment knob below (the screw in the picture is a set screw that you tighten once you're done adjusting). That is, by turning the adjustment knob, the upper half rises/lowers, thereby increasing/decreasing the height of the "wedge" and the volume of coffee dispensed.

I believe the typical "wedge" will dose out about 7 grams of coffee, enough for a single espresso.

Ima, see the bottom of this thread. It describes how I used one of those Easter Eggs that come with candy and such inside of 'em to cover my center nut and shelf for easy cleaning. Even your technical skill can pull this off!

Did you remove the thin silver shelf thingy, or is the egg that big that it covers it?
Pink...haha

No, the silver thingie is still there. This mod only sheds the grounds that would normally try to hide in the center pillar and hardware.
I have blue, red, green, yellow, you name it, but the pink were the only ones that had easter designs on 'em, so I used those. I'd try black or brown, but I haven't found those colours in easter eggs yet... ; >

I doubt you will find black Easter eggs. Maybe around Halloween..lol
I'm gonna give it a try. I have a great grinder brush, but it's just not a geeky enough solution. 8)

Where'd you get the brush? Every one that I get tends to shed into the basket occasionally. IF (and yeah, that's a big if) I catch everything, I don't get channeling.

A $5.95-ish brush from 1st-Line...brown handle, fairly large brush head....works great, no shedding. I bought it when I purchased an Elektra basket.
