1) prof_stack - what colour describes your Sama? I see from the photos (in other threads) that it is light brown. Is this what PV now calls tobacco, or is it a NOS colour from the Good Coffee Co? I am interested in getting a darker brown cover.

Actually, the Sama is a medium brown color. The flash in the posted photo makes it seem lighter. I would assume the "tobacco" color is the same. The Sama is about 20 years old. I bought it in December from the Good Coffee Company. It was rebuilt (refurbished I guess) with new seals and stuff. There's not much to replace on these simple machines. That's nice.

Dogshot wrote:2) have either you or Peacecup opened the cover on your Sama/PV Export? I assume that it has an adjustable p-stat - do you know what kind, or whether it is easily accessible?

I've not gone inside the box yet. I'm still trying to master the machine. Okay, that's not fair. I'm very happy to be using the Export. Its a fabulous machine. The long steam arm is quite useful; I like it better than the Lusso short stem near the tray.

Peacecup's photo tells that story. Someday I'll probably want to tinker with the p-stat.

One last question (for now) - does a 45mm tamper do the job well, or would you go with something slightly smaller/larger?

Thank you,
Mark

I got a 45 mm tamper that Vanelis had made for the PV. Les at Thor tampers does beautiful wooden tampers in 45 mm.

Here are two of Thor's 45 mm tampers:

Real wood makes the coffee taste better ... doesn't it? Really nice to use.

I wonder if Les could be talked into making a chess set...
