Pat...personally, I believe new behmor owners should try several roasts of varying sizes at the P1 setting. there are less variables and profiling going on. Taste the coffee, time the minutes between cracks, etc. most of all, spend a bit less time worrying and tinkering, and more time enjoying the final result. Sure, maybe the first few roasts won't be as subtle, and certainly not quite to a Pro roasted coffee, but pretty dern good, non the less.
I think any roasting device, Behmor or other, should be operated in it's most basic mode, if just to give you a bar to leap over.

Thanks, Rob, I have read much of your info on the Behmor before I purchased and started using it, the first 10 or so roasts I did were with P1, and it gave me allot of information. My whole desire in the stage I am at in my roasting is extending the time between C1 & C2.

I am extremely happy with the results so far from the Behmor, and even with the proliferation of local roasters here in my town, I feel I have done the right thing with going down this road & "roasting my own" and developing the blends and level of roast to my taste.

Rob, What size load do you most often roast in the Behmor? Just curious with your extensive use what do you prefer?

I've been doing between 12-14oz on the 1# setting, depending on the bean (chaff heavy or not, hard or soft, for vac or espresso, etc). I generally get to 1st crack around 15 minutes or so. Smaller loads will usually get me there faster. P1 usually. I try to get at least 3 minutes between cracks.
Espresso pre blended, I sometimes go with P4, and mess around with timings.
