I'm interested in the Elektra A3 machine for my home, but concerned that plumbing to my drain will not be possible. I have talked to several companies that sell them and they have not been able to come up with a suggestion for a work around. Chris Coffee suggest I post here and perhaps someone has a lead or a tip for how this machine can be modified to drip tray not connected to drain?

Any thoughts, advice or leads is appreciated!

That's definitely a problem since the driptray is very shallow and the controller is directly beneath it. Assuming that you have room under the cabinet, you could add a wastewater collector. A two gallon jug would take a long time to fill up.

I use a low tech method. A glass one cup pyrex measuring cup fits perfectly under my grouphead and steam wand. I just move it under when flushing, bleeding the steam wand, or to catch the blonding stream when I pull the cup away. I've been doing it this way for years and almost never have to empty or clean the drip tray.

Yep, mine drains into a 5 gallon water dispenser bottle (purchased at Walmart for about $5) located under the counter. About once a week I take it out and give my garden a nice drink of espresso water. It's supposed to be good for plants! (Dan is right, the drip tray is too shallow to plug the drain hole and use it as a "manual drain" tray-you'd be dumping it every few shots).

In order to drain my A3 in dedicated fashion I would have had to drill through my wife's Italian Marble kitchen counter tops- Not good for marital harmony...

IMO, this machine is too great to let a little thing like this slow you down! :D
