Now this little beauty has way too big a shipping fee for the US-... but is a very different model than I have ever seen before.

Check it out in greater detail here:

It almost looks stable with that beefier frame and squatty boiler, the steamer arm is a step in the wrong direction maybe. A much heavier PF too!

Now that is a rare bird :!: Nice color combination. It does give the impression of being more stable.

Saw that. The boiler is ceramic, btw

I've come to the sad conclusion that I need to have an effective steamer on my lever machines, because I've taken to drinking macchiatos at times. Unless I had the luxury of having two machines side by side (which would not be a bad thing), I could not have an open boiler machine.

Also, I've played with my new acquistion, the Amore. It came poorly packed, and the bakelite base cracked. It was also a little rusty in the wiring, the piston was sticky, and it is 220V. All that said it polished up nicely, and it heats to boiling in 10 minutes. I can get flow out of the group, but don't yet have a PF to fit it. I can say that a 58 mm Gaggia DOES NOT fit - the basket does, but the OD is too large. The upshot, however, is that I don't like the exposed boiler design - I didn't know how good I had it with the PV. I doubt that I would like to use a LP or Elektra for this reason. I think I'm likely to pass the Amore on to someone who wants to restore it.

Wow... that is bizarre!

What's up with that big chunk of metal on it's behind?

Hope it goes to somebody who appreciates it . . . sigh!

Very interesting!

Now, I have exceded my budget for 2008 (!) so here's a tip for anyone interested:

You can book your own transport/shipping through UPS adn possibly Fedex, DHL etc at realisitc rates rather than paying this guy stupid money to ship outside of Italy (the Italy postage is 12Euro/ $16!).

Organizing shipping yourself is relatively easy. AND this has the advantage that you (and not the seller) are the shipper/sender, so if anything goes wrong the insurance will pay to you. Bitter experience has taught me that the person whose name is down as SENDER, under International insurance protocols, is the person to whom the claim is payed! And it doesn't matter a tuppeny XXXX if you've paid for the goods inside or not.

Rant over - now go pay the man!

eBay does not "skim" from shipping and handling charges, and so many Sellers set the s&h fees over and above what is necessary to cover their actual costs for materials and postage, attributing the overage to the value of their time spent packing the item, delivering it to the depot, standing in line, etc.

Regards
Timo

P.S. Also, isn't the price you quote for uninsured surface transport rather than expedited & insured?

It looks like the same group and heater ring as the older machines. The ultra-casual electrical work on the older machine has been hugely beefed up and put in the base. I wonder when CE started in Europe; I would surmise that this model was a response to having the inspectors rolling around on the floor in laughter about the older one.

Maybe that is a barbell weight strapped to the back to off-set the pull

Hi Timo,

the 12Euro Italian postage cost quoted may well be land and uninsured but 60Euros as a price to the UK as listed is 2x what I paid on any of the last 3 imports (including from Italy). His/Her packaging costs don't change for inland vs international unless he intends to send it very poorly packaged internally - ie materials and a trip to the post office costs the same. No additional paperwork, nor tax so lets just say I'm at a loss to explain the difference.

I just thought it would be useful to mention the shipping issue so that potential buyers outside Italy for whom that rate tipped the balance might be offered a glimmer of hope AND a caveat with regard to insurance claims.

But we're wandering away from the important stuff:

Somebody's gonna be a happy tamper from the looks of it - a peppina with anti tilt geometry!

Or a Peppina with the look of anti-tilt geometry. It may be merely giving the impression that it is harder to tip over. Like a Jeep. :)
