The list is now complete; so I can announce this year's presenters at the SCAA c-Member/Consumer Homecoming on Saturday, July 15, 2006.
Kent Bakke: "The Development of the GS3." Kent is CEO of La Marzocco in the U.S. The La Marzocco GS3 is currently the most talked-about development in the world of high-end home espresso. Kent will bring a prototype to the Homecoming and demonstrate its capabilities.
Tim Castle: "Where We Are Now: The 'Third Wave' and Other Trends in Coffee." Tim is a writer ("The Perfect Cup" and more), coffee broker and former President of SCAA. His presentations have always been thought-provoking.
Mark Inman: "Sustainability and Organic Farming." Mark is the President and co-founder of Taylor Maid Farms coffee roasters. Mark's comprehensive approach to sustainability is famous in the coffee world. Mark will be SCAA's President in the 2008-09 term.
Heather Perry: "Espresso and Latte Art Class." Heather is the current West Coast Barista Champion and previous U.S. Barista Champion. Her class has been a traditional highlight of the Homecomings.
Joseph Rivera. Joseph is the Director of Science and Technology of SCAA and will speak on a technology subject that he is still working on. Joseph's tasting class on organic acids was a highlight of the 2004 Homecoming.
Michael Teahan. Michael is co-owner of Espresso Parts Source and a frequent commentator on espresso machine design. Michael will speak on a technical subject related to espresso equipment.
The event will be from 9 to about 5 on Saturday, July 15, 2006 at SCAA HQ, 330 Golden Shore, Suite 50, Long Beach, CA 90802. [Study a map before coming! It's easy to get lost in Long Beach Harbor.]
Admission will be free this year. There will be a charge for parking, and guests will be on their own for lunch.
