Who makes this pressure relief valve? Need to replace on my Salvatore Famosa.

Postby RandyK on Sat Apr 09, 2011 12:36 pm

Hi,

I have a Salvatore Famosa semi-auto machine.

The boiler pressure relief valve's spring has, apparently, weakened over the years -- when I pull a shot, or when the boiler reheats, steam and water stream from the valve.

I disassembled the valve, and checked the spring. It's clearly weakened at the beginning of its travel ... i.e., not much force required to open it just a bit.

I'd like to replace the valve, but can't ID the valve or a manufacturer for it.

Here are pics of my valve assembled,

and, exploded.

I *think* this is the valve,

but (a) can't verify, and (b) can't find a source in the US.

Can anyone comment as to whether this is the right valve, &/or where I might source one?

Thanks!

Randy

The boiler pressure relief valve's spring has, apparently, weakened over the years -- when I pull a shot, or when the boiler reheats, steam and water stream from the valve.

That particular valve is somewhat(?) unique in that the lifting pressure is adjustable. BUT, from your description, it seems as though you have a leak in your heat exchanger that has overfilled your boiler and is pressurizing your boiler way beyond typical relief valve set points (1.50-2.00 bar).

User adjustable relief valves are a rarity - suitable substitutes, if not the real thing, are available from any of this site's advertisers that offer equipment and parts.

PS - nice pics

The 'leaks when pulling a shot' is worrisome. As Eric mentioned you may have a crack in the heat exchanger which is pressurising the boiler while you pull a shot. Easy way to diagnose that is to look at the boiler pressure gauge. Put a blank basket in the portafilter and pressurize the group. If you boiler pressure gauge shoots up, you have a door stop or some serious repair work although it could be stuck solenoid as well. To your point, pressure relief valves are pretty generic. Just get the thread size of the one you have and order a generic replacement with the same thread. About any repair shop will carry them.
