Who can ID this single group commercial machine?

Postby karl_a_hall on Fri Oct 01, 2010 11:36 pm

So... who can ID this for me? My friend just picked it up for me, I don't have it in my hands yet. It says CMA on the id plate, but that is all I know. I figured people here could help me ID it.ImageImage

Thanks!

San marino CK. CMA is a company that includes Wega, San marino and Astoria (i think) These came out in various models under the above brands.Wega ones use e61 head, others don't but share very similar internals.Usually 2 litre HX boiler with unique HX hot water feed

Astoria, that is where I have seen it. I know I have seen them behind a bar before and it was a brand that has been around for a while. But I could be wrong, again, but I know I have seen them behind a bar.

My first thought was Faema too Dave... but my big machine is a faema and the group head was different upon closer inspection. You are right though, it does look very similar in body style to a Faema Due.

I knew someone on here would know pretty quickly. Thanks guys so much for your help. This is gonna get tricked out... a thermo by Eric, a PID, and try to figure out some decent way to do preinfusion. Pics to follow as I clean it up. Supposedly it is hardly used at all (my friend that picked it up knows a bit about these things and confired)... got it all for $225 (with the Gaggia MDF) which is new in box.

I am pretty happy.

From picture I guess a Wega Mininova some years old (current Mininova is slightly different http://www.wega.it/mininova). CMA owns Wega brand.

Kitt, I think you nailed it. Is that 'brand' of CMA something that was widely distributed in Aus/NZ? The australian coffee board had a lot of rebuilds of these. But not a lot here. Strange.

Yes, they were quite common down here, as Dave mentioned they were very popular for bars etc as a small 1 group commercial machine.I've fixed up a couple of the Wega versions (mininova), but they all share similar internals with an unusual square boiler.Be careful with some of the fittings on the boiler as they're easily damaged.Like you said - Coffeesnobs aussie has quite a few threads on them.Looks like you got a steal!, especially in such good condition.

I thought I should mention that we have all scored big time thanks to Eric Needham. He had high quality PDF's of CMA's user manual and technician's manual that seems to cover most machines made under the various CMA brand names.

I have posted those manuals on Scribd, and updated the HB thread below with the links to those manuals:

Enjoy!
