Video of prosumer espresso machine manufacture and assembly

Postby earlgrey_44 on Tue Feb 22, 2011 11:48 am

For those who like such things, this nine-minute video shows interesting scenes of e-61 group machining and plating, also boiler and machine assembly.

Animated sequences nicely illustrate thermosyphon and heat exchanger form and function.
Narration in German, unfortunately for those of us who no Sprechen Deutsch.

Great video. It was a nice reminder how much hand work goes into these machines. I nominate Jim Schulman to subtitle it in English. Thanks for the link.

Wow. No wonder espresso machines are expensive. I would bet the margins aren't great. You'd think this kind of labor-intensive manufacturing would have been outsourced to China, but I suspect the volumes for the pro and pro-sumer manufacturers are just too small to make that feasible.

This must include two instructional portions on how to tamp a clumpy dose and how to tamp at a 45 degree angle. At least that's what I saw, not sure what they were saying :D
