On the HX, I can measure the effect of scale on the shot inter-shot temperature change.
See Scale, HX Temperature Stability and a bit o' PID

Using the same bottled water, no change is detected on the DB.

Brew boiler element after 6 months of daily use with no descale. Boiler looked no worse.
Real soon now, the DB will be torn down for a photo session of possible neglect

Sadly, there is far too much hooey on the www. On ALL topics.

So this is presumably because the DB brew boiler runs at a lower temperature than the HX one? (Sorry for any ignorance).

I saw that. I can't imagine doing all that on a regular basis, let alone once a month as Jim suggests! Isn't just running descaling solution though the machine enough?

Stephano's instructions are very clear, but I cannot imagine doing this regularly, either. Besides, his method includes getting the jumper wire. There is a $20 surcharge on a small order from him, and I have not opened everything up to look at the wires to build a jumper myself.

Jim suggests just running de-scaler through the group head, but I am wondering about the 4x part. That sounds awfully strong. I will try 2x at first.
