Then there is the underlying question of why did the element fail? They will burn out over time but it usually takes many, many years. Most often the culprit is the boiler going empty and the element getting exposed to air which will cause it to rupture but there are safeguards built into that machine to prevent that from happening. It would be a shame to replace the heater just to have the new one pop due to an underlying problem.
