Vetrano pump leaking, need a new pump. Advice please!

Postby dorkboy on Mon Mar 16, 2009 9:40 pm

Hey,
So I have a 2.5 year old QuickMill Vetrano that I use daily. My Vetrano has a Fluid-o-tech MA054 pump. I noticed last week that there was some water under it, so I took the body off this past weekend and this is what I found. There was rust and a bit of corrosion where the motor and pump meet. It seemed to be leaking from the bearing, as well as the bottom/side peepholes.
Now I've done the searching on this site, and I pretty much know that I have to buy a new one. So my question is, what's a good quality pump that will outlast this one?
I can get my hands on Fluid-o-tech PA301 for a cheap price, but wondering if the flow is too high on this one.

What would you recommend me doing or which one to get and from who?

Thanks a lot,

Scott.

Scott, sorry I have no advice to offer, just curious what your line pressure is regulated to. Have seen a few posts on pump failures at roughly that age, just wondering how common it is.

Is it noisy when running?

http://www.home-barista.com/espre...-option-t8443.html

This was solved by a replacement motor and pump. It is possible the pump was ok, but safer to change it. I think this was caused by the lack of vibration damping on the motor causing a leak between the pump and the motor. This corroded a bearing in motor which made a grinding noise when run even without the pump attached. This happened, or at least became evident, around the 3 year mark.

Not sure if this is relevant to your situation without more info.

Cheers, Chris

Here is a source for rebuilt products: http://www.jcbeverage.com/ While they appear to specialize in Procon, they also do F-O-T as far as I know. The performance curves for pumps offered by Procon and Fluid-O-Tech are on their respective websites - I'd be a little hesitant in straying from what was originally installed.
