Vacuum breaker sticking after leak repair

Postby CSME9 on Mon Nov 27, 2006 8:55 am

Need some help please, decalsified the HX and boiler and replaced a leaky gasket that was hissing on the relieve valve on top of the boiler on my Isomac Tea. The gasket is a little thicker than the original i had in my tool box but the pin on the valve appears it can still move up/down and now i am getting vapor lock most of the time after i turn the machine on, i know i can open the steam valve a bit and the boiler pressure needle will drop to zero then climb back to 1.2 and then machine will function properly.

How can i permanently eliminate vapor locking ?

Thanks, WS

Have you tried soaking the vacuum breaker in descaler (or even vinegar)? It may have some residual dirt / scale buildup that is making it stick. Which vacuum breaker do you have? The one on the left has the reputation of sticking easily. The one on the right is a replacement vacuum breaker with a heavier pin and Teflon sleeve, so it resists sticking.

I have the one on the left which i had removed to add the washer and wiped the valve down but i guess it time for a new valve, a new one is pretty in-expensive. Do you know if the valve on the right from CC comes with a new gasket ?

Thanks, WS

Sorry, I don't know. You could note "Please include a washer / gasket for the vacuum breaker" in the order's comments and hope they toss one in.
