Used Fiorenzato Ducale shuts down unexpectedly

Postby wmgilligan on Tue Jan 05, 2010 4:55 pm

I have a nice Fiorenzato Ducale Compact I got second (or third) hand over Christmas. It seems to work fine, except that after about 15 minutes it shuts down (blinking lights). All I can find online is that its not holding pressure.

I can't find any other info online, can anyone help?

Welcome to HB :)

Since you got the machine used - do you have a manual? If not, have you tried contacting 1st line?

Blinking lights indicate "No Water"
This can be caused by 2 things.

1- Boiler refill valve does not open or one of the lines is blocked. Blinking lights will start after about 2 minutes. Switching the machine off and on again will reset this error message.

2- Flow meter error. Water is running from the group but the flowmeter does not give impulses to the main board. Lights start blinking after about 10 seconds after starting the group on any of the program buttons.

Hi Gr! Thank you!
Its definitely #1.
Right now I am thinking its the parker 3 way valve. Does that sound right to you?
I have no schematic on anything, and can't seem to find one anywhere.

I can post images, etc - anything you need if you could point me in the right direction.

In fact it should be a 2 way valve.
The Ducale came in 3 different models. The first ones had a "normal" 2 way valve behind the boiler. Later on it was changed to a valve on the right side next to the boiler.
The latest models have the refill valve under the drip tray. This one looks like a 3-way valve and is mounted on a piece of brass.

First check if the coil gets 110 / 220 volt a few seconds after you switched on the machine. (the pump should start running after a few seconds)
If there is current, remove the coil from the valve and stick a screwdriver through the coil. Switch on the machine and you should be able to feel the magnatism of the coil.
If both are ok, check if any water reaches the valve. Just remove the valve (on a cold and switched off machine) and turn on the water to the machine. If water comes out somewhere, it should be a blocked line between the valve and the boiler. Just try and error.

If you can post some pictures, I can point it out.

I got my new valve in today, and replaced it - machine works great!!!

One final issue - when pressurizing, the system, it shoots water out from the side. There is no gasket, and I am wondering if there should be, or if there is something else I can use.

The arrow points to the leaking spot. When water is pumped a nice fine stream shoots out.

That is very strange, I assume you put in 2 new rubber seals (o-ring)?
Please remove the valve to check if the seals are still in place.

I replaced the complete unit. There was no gasket when I removed the old, and no new one to use. It would not be an o ring I don't think, but rather square.

It is not leaking internally, but rather where the brass body meets the mounting (at arrow). All holes are lined up. Should there be a gasket or something between the two mountings?

Yes, always. The valve has around both holes room for a small o-ring. I am sure.
