Used Andreja Premium with loose green wire?

Postby marfer on Mon Mar 28, 2011 10:36 pm

Opened my new used Andreja premium for the first time today and found, to my surprise an unhooked green wire?? No idea what this is for or why it is unhooked... no unused terminals anywhere that I know of.
Any advice on what I should do?

Green is the US standard for ground, but that is not a US made machine so it is hard telling what it is. Where does the wire go on the other end?

Judging by that connector and the water spotted wiring, that machine has leaked.
Check all the connections and wires for corrosion.
Replace any wires that have brittle / broken connector covers or insulation.

Thanks Eric. I downloaded your schematic. My Premium has a solid green wire and green wire with yellow stripe and schematic only shows green/yellow? I'll have to open her up again but I would guess it is the ground for the boiler, but the is no terminal to attach to?

As for leakage, I know that vacuum valve is regularly releasing a puff of steam just before it triggers.
I will replace it with one of those ones I can attach a hose to and drain away from electrical.

A little puff of steam is normal from a vacuum breaker. The boiler has to reach steam pressure then the venting steam pushes the valve up and seals the boiler. Once it seals, if it continues to hiss, it may need replaced.

What is the other end connected to (hard to see in the photo)? If it is screwed to a metal part of fitting, it is a ground wire. I can't believe that a manufacturer left it like that. I suspect that a previous owner did a repair and left it loose. Possible the ground fitting where it belonged corroded away or was left off a screw or bolt.

The other clue is that it is uninsulated. Common with ground connections.

I was looking at this image from chris coffee faq and noticed the, what looks like a ground clip and ground wire attached to the hi limit reset button. I don't have this clip on my reset button. Maybe some lazy previous repair never bothered to re attach it?

Also notice the terminal is insulated. It's very poor form to leave any terminals that are not bolted down uninsulated.

Matt -

With reference to YOUR picture, the end of the wire (with your question mark) attaches to a right angle male spade terminal that, itself, has a small punched hole. It is simply held to the boiler surface by the screw which fastens the safety limit switch down. Yours may/may not be present - Radio Shack (or an equivalent) has an ample supply.

The other end of that green wire goes to the main power entry terminal (the ground terminal) at the rear of the machine.

Thanks Eric. Here is an image of my limit switch. I don't see a place to attach a ground wire to it?
Do you have an idea of where I can attach it? I assume I don't want the aluminum ground clip to have direct contact with copper? It also looks tricky to get tools in there to remove or replace the switch.
