I know this subject was first addressed in 2010 which is probably when I purchased my machine. I recently was doing some maintenance including replacing a defective vacuum breaker valve on the steam boiler. I happened to think once again about the drip tray cover that routinely dumps water onto the counter and so went to LaMarzoccoUSA.com and looked at the newer design tray. They wanted $270 dollars!
1. Does anyone have a less expensive resource for this?
2. Does the new design eliminate the runoff problems?
Thanks so much for your help.

I am really not familiar with the gs3 drip tray but if you don't mind putting a hole in your drip tray why not create a drain for it that goes to a bucket? That's what I would do. Would be the easiest and cheapest fix out there. Just maybe not the prettiest (unless you have a counter you can drill a hole in as well and hide the bucket underneath).
Just a thought. This might sound stupid and this might not even address your problem. I'm assuming your talking about the drip tray filling up to fast and spilling over? Or is it a design flaw in the cover that doesn't allow water to fall fast enough to the drip tray?

Do you mean the water runs along the grate and then overflows on the counter. Someone on this site recommended a guy that makes custom grates out of steel bar. I really love mine...much better than the OEM tray.

He's talking about water splashing off the top of the drip tray grate and getting all over the counter.
I made a new grate out of a wire cooling rack like these (not the exact model I used.)
It worked, but didn't look all the great (pun intended.)
Yes, the price of the new grate is absurd (as is the price of the replacement stainless apron for the drain box.) Later I was able to obtain the replacement stainless steel grate for a very low price from a dealer who I think had a spare one that hadn't cost him much -- don't know why. The new grate works much better, but still splashes a bit. It looks like the grate on the new Linea Mini is much better.

Contact these guys with your dimensions. They made mine and did a nice job for a very reasonable price.

Alex, I can attest to how well that drip tray rack work. It is super, I put one on my Londinium machine since I thought their racks were not as good as could be.

Oooo, that is nice. I wonder how they would handle the GS3 grate that has a lip that goes over the edge of the drain tray? My SCL could use a better grate. It would be cool to get a Cremina/Maxi one as well, or an LP one! I have so many machines that would benefit from a better grate.

I emailed and they responded right away. The wording suggests that they're thinking of a grate that has space around it, not a lip. I'll send them some photos of the GS/3 grate and see if they can come up with something.russel wrote:Oooo, that is nice.
