Triple Baskets for La Spaziale Vivaldi

Postby Bex on Sat Mar 13, 2010 10:37 am

It appears that the only way to get a triple basket for the Vivaldi II (one that fits normally & without modifying the bottomless pf) is to have them custom fabricated. Before I start looking down that avenue, I wanted to confirm that I haven't missed anything. If you know of a source, please let me know.

Edited for clarity - thanks JohnB! :D

Plenty of info on this in the Triple Baskets section of the S1 Forum but the Dalla Corte triple basket will work after a few mods to your bottomless portafilter. Unfortunately they've been on back order at Espressoparts for months so finding one can be a problem. I bought two from the U.S. DC importer a year ago but that may no longer be an option. The La San Marco 21gram basket is another option but also can be tough to find.

Thanks, do you have a link? I must be blind or a bad searcher, last I checked I only found the custom fabrication thread.

Thanks - I realize my first post was probably vague. This is the kind of information I did find but should have referenced (using a die grinder on a portafilter, baskets that aren't quite a good fit). I'll edit the initial post. Sorry for putting you to the trouble. :)

Any triple basket that fits the stock L/S bottomless p/f without having to open the bottom isn't worth buying IMO. Look at the pics in the original triple basket thread. That original custom basket that sold for $50 is only slightly deeper then the stock double so why bother?

Very interesting! Looks like I need to find someone local who can work on the PF. Thanks John.

John was kind enough to sell me one of his Dalla Corte triple baskets. However, after using it for awhile I came to the conclusion that the stock double basket was all I needed. However, I know some of you are simply dying to get one, so I'll be posting my Dalla Corte triple, with a modified bottomless pf, over on the S1 Cafe Swap Board today.

Excellent, I will check it out.

My main reason for wanting one is that the Counter Culture brewing parameters (for the blends I like) all specify 19+ g I haven't been able to pack that much into my double and get good results. Maybe I am Doing It Wrong. :)

They use a La Marzocco FB-80 in their espresso lab; unlike many espresso machines, it responds favorably to updosing. For the La Spaziale, I expect you'll come to the same conclusion as Keith that a triple offers no advantage over the stock double.
