Tips to avoid plumb-in disaster? - Page 2

Postby wantcrema on Thu Mar 01, 2007 11:24 am

I did have a plumber do the work but I was surprised by how quickly and easily it was done (less than an hour...and my machine was on the opposite the sink area). I was hesitant to do it but now I'm THRILLED not to deal with that reservoir!

Good luck!

Other option is to go through the backsplash. I did this for my VII and it worked out prettty well. Put a filler plate in at the same height as my 20amp circuit for the machine.

So,

(I promise, I'm not an idiot, just terrified of putting holes into things like my kitchen)

A hole through the backsplash, another hole lower down behind the sink? How did you fish the line through? Is it possible to run a drainline this way as well or unadvisable because of the lack of pressure and diameter? Thanks again. - reub

The drain line needs be sizable to allow water and grinds to flush without clogging. You also need to be able to install it so that it can drain by gravity.

I ran a half inch filtered, regulated line for my Elektra. To drain, I ran a line to a 4 gallon bucket under the cabinet and empty it in the sink every couple of days.

I put my machine on the end of the kitchen counter. Drilled a hole on the side of the counter. Put my water line in there & ran it through the upper inside of my bottom cabinets ,behind the drawers & hooked it up under the sink. Put my drain line in the same counter side hole & into a 18 quart pot in the cabinet right next to the hole, that I empty every week or so.
