In a week I'll have my new Vibiemme HX Jr. I wanted to modify it with the GH thermometer from Chris Coffee. The CC website has an instruction sheet for the equipment. But they don't show a photo of installed. Nor do they say whether it is simple, or if it requires professional tools. I have no tools.

What does this device look like mounted on a machine, and should I pay 1st Line to do the installation?

(I'm talking about the thermocouple and dial fitted on the e61, not Earl's device in the Portafilter)

I assume you mean Eric's E61 thermocouple adapter. It's a trivial installation. If you run into a snag, you can always contact erics.

What does this gadget look like mounted on a machine? The DRO. The gauge. Not the thermocouple.

I have no tools.
Well, you'll need a 5 mm allen head wrench and a 7/16" (or 11 mm) combination wrench or a small (6") crescent wrench.

I am certainly willing to "walk you through" the install ASSUMING you have read the manual.

That helps. Thank you. The last picture depicts the read-out, dead center slightly high on the e61. The picture posted before that showed a front view of the e61 with a protruding thermocouple and wire and no DRO. Those are two different views of the equipment.

The reason for my repeated questions (look at my initial posting --- I read your instructions on Chris Coffee) was this. Does the wire snake off into the next room to the DRO (in photo 1) or will the DRO be looking me in the eye. I'm not being technical. Think "new guy who just wants to know what this indicator will look like to the operator." You still have given me that answer, just a side view which doesn't allow me to see how big the dial is compared to the machine. You can't tell from the side view.

I asked for the time of day, and you built me a clock.

There are no exposed wires.

The digital readout will be directly in front of you - the dimensions of the thermometer are in the manual you read as all of the drawings are to scale.

Sure looks like a thermocouple, a wire and no readout head to me. Illustration from your instructions.

I think Eric means this one:

It is, of course.

But YOU are displaying a pic from instructions not applicable to the grouphead thermometer. The correct instructions are on the Chris' Coffee website as per this: http://www.chriscoffee.com/files/68/Dig ... 182011.pdf

For the sake of full disclosure, I captured the image from the instructions on Eric's personal file store. The same location has these instructions for the thermocouple adapter.
