Temperature measurement Bezzera BZ07 PID - Page 4

FWIW, after a few temp tests I've found that it's at least as consistent to just time the whole flush, instead of trying to listen for the boiling to stop and then counting from there. I had a little trouble pinpointing the exact end of the boiling especially if there was any noise in the room. Now I just time the flush for (on my machine) 11 sec for a mid temp shot, and adjust from there for hotter and colder. Seems to work fine, and no more bending over the machine trying to hear it.

I'm doing exactly the same. Pstat 1,1 bar. Flushing for about 8-10 seconds & go. What's your boiler pressure? It's convenient that the flush is the same length every time!

My boiler is set at 1.3 bar, so my flushes may be a little longer than yours. I have no real reason for 1.3bar. I've tried it at 1.0 to 1.5 bar and they all seem to work OK if flush times are adjusted a bit. I *may* have seen slightly flatter midrange temp curves at 1.2-1.3 bar, but I don't remember now.

and I assume you do a flush and go? and you flush without PF just before locking in the prepared PF?

today I did my flush with the empty PF in the group...than prepared my shot...and pulled my shot maybe 30 seconds after the flush...worked well according to taste!

Yes, I do a flush and go, and take around 5 seconds to get the pf locked in after the flush. I am pretty slow preparing the pf though, over a minute; not ideal I suppose.

I have not tried flushing before preparing the pf...

pstat at the moment 1,2 bar/flush length is barely longer/steaming performance is markedly better!

*end of flash boil after 7 seconds flushing by count
*9 seconds flush&go for a hot shot
*11 seconds flush&go for a medium hot shot
*13 seconds flush&go for a cool shot

works fine/taste is good/no more measurements for now

:D

Do I understand you correctly that you for eg run 13 sec in total inc the period before the "boiling" begin?

yes, 9, 11 or 13 seconds total flush time (e.g. 2, 4 or 6 more seconds after flash boil ends)...

if I don't flush at all sometimes shots are hot and sometimes shots are cool; with some blend it doesn't matter but with most I assume this has something to do with the temperature swing in the group head...

This is exactly the same behavior as my BZ07 has, FWIW.
