Surprise at the Glass Museum!

Postby Juanjo on Tue Aug 24, 2010 7:11 pm

This weekend we went for a road trip from NY to Canada.
On the way, we stopped in Corning, NY to visit the Corning Glass Museum.
While walking on the second floor, I took a picture of the coffee bar without noticing what an amazing set up they had. When I took a closer look, I saw a beautiful two group lever machine, paired with two mazzer majors with a sophisticated electronic panel (for the dozer, I believe). I ran down to try the coffee and it was excellent. Not what I would expect from a glass museum.

PS.
here are couple pictures from the museum.. lot of fun, even if you don't care about glass :)

Not just any old lever, a Kees Mirage. So how did it get there? Five third wave points if you can guess without looking

I'll play without looking. My guess is it came from Gimme! Coffee - did I win?

I guessed right. Then again... I recall seeing this machine in one of their shops - probably State Street Ithaca location - a few years ago.

That's the double version of the Waring Grinder Timer.

Some really nice shots with the camera, enjoyed the perspectives.

Yup! I've used the single version for years to control my grinders.

Two memories of Corning in the 70's: an amazing glassblowing demo at the Steuben Glassworks and the worst "Italian" dinner of my life at a local restaurant.

That group on the right looks like it's had it's ass handed to it :-)

I love the Corning Glass Museum. My sister lives in Elmira, and we periodically get over there when I visit.

Took me a moment to get that one. Sad face portafilter, but it needs a couple eyes to make it really stand out.
