Steam wand conversion returnable to stock?

This isn't a topic specifically covered in previous threads, but I was wondering if anyone else had first hand experience.
I have the Duetto, and bought the "burn me" steam wand from CCS, to swap out on my unit. I tried it and found that it steamed waaaaay too fast for me, and I ended up putting the stock "no burn" wand back on. What I'm wondering, is if it's possible to remove that inner steam tube from the no burn wand, and turn the stock steam wand into a larger diameter "burn me" steam wand temporarily?
I read the thread that detailed how to do the opposite, making a burn me wand into a no burn. But can I safely take the center tubing out and still have a non leaking fully functional steam wand? And can it be returned to it's original configuration simply by sliding in the plastic center tubing again?
Thanks for any input on this. If anyone's ever tried this with their unit, I'd appreciate any feedback. I'd like to be able to try different tips that I have, and I like the shape and diameter of the "no burn" wand.

Anybody? Just hoping someone might have attempted this in the past.
