Ruby seat solenoid valves

Postby voganni on Thu Jan 29, 2009 3:17 pm

Hi, I have a cimbali m30 with a bad hot water solenoid valve. It has a ruby seat. Cost is about $100. My question is, how important is the ruby seat? I can get the same valve with a viton seat for $70, good to 180°F. The ruby has cracked on mine and leaks water badly. Thanks, Bill

Won't your water be hotter than 180?

My bad. The viton valve is rated to 140°C, which is 284°F. The ruby valve is only rated to 167°F, and it's the original Cimbali part.

Hi,

I think you need to ping Barry Jarrett at Riley's Coffee, or Michael Teahan at Espresso Resources. Michael has deeper knowledge of Cimbali bits than almost anyone, and has many devoted fans around here, with reason.

Best,
David

Normally a viton seat is better for the 3 ways group valve and the ruby for the inlet 2 ways
but you see them in both applications in both ways
