Rocket Cellini Evoluzione vibration problem

Postby iuli_dizzy on Thu Dec 30, 2010 11:07 am

Hello!

Can anybody tell me why my new espresso machine is vibrating so bad that I need to hold the cups not to move on the drip tray? Also I've noticed that the brewing pressure is not going higher than 5-6 bar while I'm making espresso.
Thank you very much!!

Unfortunately, they call them vibratory pumps for a reason. Finding the source of the sympathetic vibration isn't easy. Check if the lines from output side of the pump are touching parts that rattle easily.

As for the low brew pressure... if it reads 5-6 bar against a blind filter, adjust the over-pressure valve; see the threads linked from Vibratory pumps in this forum's FAQs and Favorites. If it reads low only while brewing, it's channeling (usual suggestions to use fresh coffee, a good grinder, measure consistent dose, distribute evenly, etc... basically the topics covered in the Recommended Reading of the site's FAQs and Favorites Digest).

The Rocket Evoluzione is equipped with rotary pump.....I don't understand why is vibrating so much.

Take the shell off and see if you can easily find the source of the vibration. It shouldn't be that hard to find.

Sorry about the mixup. As Scott suggests, some detective work is necessary. The pump pressure will need to be adjusted via the bypass valve (#22 below); searching on "rotary pump pressure" found some good matches.

are you tanked or plumbed for water? the line from my tank was severely kinked and caused the pump to act a bit funny. seems smoother after making the line straight. something to check.

I had the same problem. Didn't think much of it at first, but it got rather annoying. Finally got under the hood yesterday and did some research. The pump is mounted to a carriage; the carriage is secured to the base via four bolts, but dampened by rubber boots to reduce vibration. When I activated the pump, it just seemed like the assembly as a whole was too mobile; I cut some neoprene from a beverage holder, and placed 3 pieces in a few places under one side of the carriage (would have done both, but access was too difficult from the other side). I then felt how mobile the assembly was, and the free play was significantly reduced. I threw it back together, declined the OPV a tad (hits 9 with a blind), and today it was MUCH quieter.
Time will tell, but if the noise comes back, I'll put more effort into dampening the entire carriage assembly. I didn't want to waste too much time yesterday w/o knowing if I was even on the right track. Hope that helps.
