Replacing portafilter basket as regular maintenance

I received an email today from a company that I have ordered parts from in the past. They want me to change my pf basket when I change my group gasket and do this at least twice a year. They claim:

The mating surface as well as the bottom of the portafilter basket wear over time. By the time the issues are noticed you have a big problem on your hands. Suddenly basket replacement becomes critical and expedited shipping charges have to be paid to get the new portafilter basket to you pronto. Your new $7-12 basket just cost you $40 or so.

Is this just marketing or is there something to this? I've never had problems in the past in this regard.

Baskets will wear out and the holes will enlarge over time. Cafe's replace them now and then but they pull more shots in a day than we do in a year. I have never worn one out.
