One of the wires to the boiler heating element melted last week, and after a bit of back and forth with the services guys at Chris Coffee, I have a replacement heating element on the way. I popped open the case and had a look around, and I'm not sure what the right way is to replace the heating element.

I didn't find anyone talking about doing it online, and I was wondering if anyone could point me at a step-by-step or could explain it to me at least? Any help would be appreciated.

thanks,

Set the machine upside down on a soft surface.
Rotate the access plate out of the way.
Use a 1-1/2" deep socket and a tee-handle wrench to unscrew the element.

Alternatively, take the machine to your favorite auto mechanic and let him remove the element with an ADJUSTABLE impact wrench.

Thanks, I didn't realize there was an access panel for that. I'll give it a look.

Depending on where you are in California, it may be a good idea to take the machine here: http://www.greatinfusions.com/ . This should NOT be considered a trivial task, especially when doing it for the first time.

I assume you also ordered a replacement seal for the heating element.

Not quite the same thing as your Anita, but I imagine the process is similar....and yes, it was a little scary my first time as there is a lot of damage that could happen.

Yes, I've ordered the parts already. I've been busy, and haven't opened the panel to take a look yet. Santa Cruz isn't too much of a hike, but I was hoping, I could do the work myself.

I'm toying with the idea of upgrading, but I wanted to see how well I could do the maintenance on the Anita myself first. Minimally, I was hoping to buy some time for shopping for the upgrade. We are in serious espresso withdrawal around here right now. :)

Thanks for the help guys,

Did you end up doing the work yourself? How would you rate the difficulty of attempting such repair.

Thanks,
