Rancilio Silvia steam thermostat turns off at 130°C?

Postby kog on Thu Sep 09, 2010 10:39 am

Hi,

Interested to know if other finding their Silvia steam thermostat is turning boiler off at 130c.

I have fitted an auber PID (which seems to be working fine). It is showing steam thermostat clock off at 130c consistently. I had understood it should stay on until 140c.

I brew at 102 and this works great with beans I use.

I was suspicious of the steam thermostat and got a replacement - fitted the replacement and exactly the same 130c cut off point.

The thermostat click boiler back in again at 120c.

Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Many thanks

I have an Auber PID that also control steam temp. I have it set to turn the heater on at <=139°C and off at >=140°C (user configurable, I think this was the out-of-the-box settings). The original button steam thermostat on the boiler is not used in this setup but I can hear it click off long before the PID reaches 140°C. I would need to check to confirm the exact temperature, but I would say it is around 125-130°C.

thanks. I had a feeling that the 130c might be closer to the norm, although all documentation I've seen says the steam themo is rated for 140c.
