Quickmill Andreja Leaky Brew Expansion Valve (OPV) - Need Advice

Postby jmalto on Tue Oct 04, 2011 9:15 am

Hey guys,

I purchased a used Andreja (not premium) from a member over at CG and when I got the unit I noticed that the brew pressure stat was not moving above 2.3 no matter how fine or coarse I was grinding my shots. I decided to open it up and adjust the OPV and I found that the nut that you tighten or loosen for the adjustment was extremely loose almost to the point of falling off. I tightened it up and now have 9.5 bars of pressure which is good, but I also noticed with fiddling with it for several hours that the tube that connects to the OPV has 3 small leaks in it and I believe the actual nut where you make the adjustment for pressure is also leaking a tad. Here is a picture of what I am referring to:

Can I disconnect this nut all the way and add teflon tape around it to seal it or will it be a problem to completely disconnect it? Would it be possible to add a small amount of white silicon or is that not advised since this is one of the water lines?

Thanks for the help.

All of the parts I mention are available from Chris' Coffee. The adjusting "nut" is sealed with an o-ring. The silicone hose is the same style hose that serves as the pump suction line and return lines going back to the reservoir - you may be able to snip off some inches and apply that piece or new hose is readily available. The 1/8" BSPP adaptor fitting and 1/4" BSPP threads on the OPV valve assembly are sealed with thread sealer - Loctite 565 or 567 is good as is Loctite 515 (an old habit from automotive days).

I would get a new OPV valve insert and some food safe grease for the o-ring and adjust the OPV such that the brew pressure gage reads 9.0 bar with a blind filter.

Eric,

You are awesome, thanks for breaking this down. I went to home depot and picked up some hose so I am good there but forgot the locktight (slapping head.)

I will contact Chris and see if I can get a new valve insert.

Thanks again!
