It's working out really well. I would say that the new screen spreads water better, stays a tiny bit cleaner, and looks more attractive. The problems I had with the screen catching the basket rim are obviously gone. That alone might be worth the price tag, but I honestly think that it functions a little better as well. The spread of water visually seems more even. I don't know for sure if that translates into the cup, but I've yet to see a star pattern in a puck like I used to. I'd like to think it helps with channeling a bit.

Modifying the new screen to fit the old machine takes more effort than I thought it would. The combination of a slightly dull drill bit and a drill-press with a small wobble meant problems for centering the hole. You have to take out a fair amount of material and the steel is pretty tough. Make sure to go slow, pause often, and use lubrication to avoid overheating the screen. I ended up doing a lot of finishing work with a Dremel.
