Proper Gasket for Rocket Cellini

Postby javacrazed on Wed Oct 05, 2011 2:40 pm

Hello group, I have a Rocket Cellini and replaced the grouphead gasket with a new one for Seattle Coffee gear. After 2 hours I finally got it in place. I used it for about a month but just put the original one back in because it just would not fit the portafilter in the grouphead properly.

Question -- does anyone know what the proper gasket should be, the original one had no marking on it that I could see. The one I received from SCG reads F16 a 6 and a front and backwards G see attached photo??

Any help would be appreciated.

In what way did it not fit?

The gasket in my Rocket Evol has been replaced twice. It has never taken more than a minute to get it in place, and less than that to get it out. I push gaskets back in place with the back end of a dull table knife by working around it and pushing slightly, and finish the job by cranking in the portafilter, which pushes it firmly in place. Very quick procedure.

How long did it take you to *reinstall* the original gasket? Hopefully just a minute or two.

The dimensions of the gasket currently in place on my machine is 73mm(OD)x57mm(ID)x8mm(thick). Fits perfectly. The printing, on the beveled side, must face up, toward the group.

If you use a thicker gasket on a fairly new machine (say, 8½mm) your portafilter handle will aim towards 7 or 8 o'clock. Thicker gaskets are useful when your portafilter ears etc become worn and you need a thicker gasket (8½ or 9mm, progressively).

There are a lot of companies that make these gaskets, and I would not assume Rocket uses the same mfg for all their machines. Different mfg products will work fine if the right size.

FYI the original gasket on my machine had an "F" on one side, and on the opposite side was the number "10". I measured the thickness of my original gasket, for the heck of it, and found the thickness to vary between 8.10 - 8.38mm, with the average being 8.20mm -- this was for a USED gasket, not new, but before I replaced it.

A replacement gasket I have which is still new has the backwards-forwards "G" at the top, the numeral "8" at about 120 degrees, and the designation "F15-W556" at about 240 degrees.

So between 4 gaskets, I have no gasket that has no marking on it. Not to say they don't make them.

Yet another has "DVM" at the top, and the numeral "8" on the opposite side.

Did you ask SCG about this?

Regards.

thanks for the reply. The portafilter just barely fit in the grouphead. So it's handle was at about the 7 or 8 o'clock mark. The new gasket which I have removed and replaced with the original one took about 10 mins and a lot of muscle to put in. The original went right back in no problem, as I have taken it out several time to clean the screen and head.

Question - where did you purchase the replacement gasket from? Can you send me a link if you bought it online?? thanks again for your help. The original one will work for now as it is tight at about 5:30 o'clock.
