PressureStat Replacement Oscar now heater does not come on

Postby misterdoggy on Sat Apr 11, 2009 8:08 am

Hi,

I got the replacement PressureStat Pictured several times below, but it is different than the one that was stock on the machine. It has written XP110 0,5+1,2bar on it and on top is written MA-TER with an adjustable screw for pressure adjustment I imagine. I am worried as it is different than the stock and wondered if anyone out there recognizes it before I go and install it. ??

Also the electronics are different in that there are 3 posts while on the old one there are only 2 posts. The old one the posts are marked 1 and C (common maybe) and the new one has 2 copper posts and a plain metal post. The plain metal post has an indication that it is connected to one of the brass posts 1 to 2 and the 3rd post is marked 4. Since there are only 2 wires to attach I can't go wrong but which to which or it doesn't matter.

Remember I am in France and we have 230V (3 wires)

Any help would be greatly appreciated. What I really need to know is if this is the right Pressure Stat replacement ?

Whichever wire was connected to the common terminal or your OLD pstat gets connected to the terminal marked 1 on your NEW pstat. The other wire gets connected to the terminal marked 2 on your NEW pstat.

The terminal marked 4 on your NEW pstat is not used in your application.

Eric,

I have followed your instructions and the heating light comes on, but its not heating ??

Its not heating up ? Anything to look for. The position is right because its the only one that makes the heating light come on. I wired the old pressurestat and did the same thing.

Heating light indicator is on but no heating taking place...

Is there any protection because the cover is off or something I should look for ?

In the first picture you posted in the thread about your pstat problem, you will see portions of the safety thermostat (little red button). With the machine off and unplugged, see if this red button is extended out and, if so, push it in.

MAKE SURE the boiler has water in it by removing the pstat and sticking a small wooden dowel into the boiler. The boiler should be ABOUT 2/3 full.

Do other machine functions perform?

there is no red button on the new mater ?

Everything seems to work although I notice the grouphead is leaking a little water drip drip

I press the coffee button and the pump sends water thru the grouphead. Cold water

what else to look for ?

Eric

It was not in the out position

Heating isn't happening even if the heating light is on

I went back and made sure the boiler was fairly full

Don't know where else to look ?

Well Bruce, since the machine did, at least, heat up prior to replacing the pstat, I too am at a loss. There is an electrical diagram for the Oscar here on the last page: http://www.nuovadistribution.com/images/Technical_Information/Manuals/Nuova%20Simonelli/Oscar%20-%20Instruction%20Manual.pdf
How comfortable do you feel operating a volt-ohmmeter? I assume the water reservoir is full?

I can use an ohm meter pretty OK

The Reservoir is full and the boiler is pretty full

Do you want me to check to see that current is arriving at the heater coil ? If it is then the heating coil is the culprit.

The whole story is when I called the distributor of Nuova Simonelli and explained the problem with the pressurestat, he offered me a Brand New Machine at cost. Here in France its 800 euros and I took him up on his offer buying it for 350 euros (a steal)

This new machine I'm giving to my son and I had already bought myself a brand new LaVibiemme Domobar Super. So this machine is just for play and practising being a mechanic. If its too much trouble I will give up on it and toss it in the bin. Too bad as I am close to fixing it if only the heater would heat up. :(
