Thanks eric. The stock tip was a problem for me from day 1 so I ordered a set of 4 tips from Rocket and settled on the small diameter 2 hole tip. Seems to work much better. Others have complained about the stock tip as well so I know it's not just me.

When i serviced my water level probe, i took care to replace it to the same height as i found it but i must admit i did not notice where it ended relative to the nut. When i get a chance, i will check it out and let you know what i find.

I will also try to get a water measurement from the vacuum breaker as Eric has indicated. That way, we will have two data sets for future owners.

I think i'll also send an e-mail to Rocket. They have been pretty responsive in the past to my questions, it's worth a shot.

Any update Spiff? My results are still very hit and miss. Mostly miss. I've tried 5 different tips now. Anything with large holes is useless. No spinning and heating up way too fast. The best results are from the tip with 2 small holes. I kind of wish I could adjust the rotation of the tip so the two holes faced the correct way when inserted in the milk. I also tried the original tip with one hole plugged this morning. Everything was actually going well until I ran out of steam. Steaming with this one hole tip does take longer though. To be honest, I don't really understand why tips have more than one hole if creating a whirlpool is the goal.

I haven't had the time to play with my machine recently. My son had a bad reaction to penicillin which kept him in bed for the better part of the two last weeks

I asked Andrew to give me some more data to allow a measurement from outside the boiler as i can't see how i can measure that 15 mm. I will wait for his response and post the results.

Once i am sure of probe placement, if steaming is still not adequate, i will crank up the pstat a bit.

Honestly, i use the stock tip and steaming is ok for une drink but runs low for two drinks. That is what i would like to improve.

I think I can use that 15mm suggesttion. Remove the probe assembly, measure the depth of the tank, divide by 2, add 15mm.

Andrew from Rocket has been helpful enough to provide some more info on setting up the water level probe.

He sent me some pics of a properly installed stock probe and basically, the flat part where the connector goes on should be quite close to the fitting. In other words it goes in as far as it can. This mat NOT be true for replacement probes that can be of a different length.

I must say that Rocket has been so far very responsible to my questions and inquiries even after i finally purchased their product. I'm quite happy with them, might even visit the factory in Milan next summer.

I have a Rocket Evoluzione and a Rocky doserless grinder. While trying to fix a grind issue I recently upgreaded to the Rocky, however, now I have two new issues. Now it takes 2 plus minutes to pull a shot. Also, if I attempt to froth milk while pulling a shot, the brewhead gauge drops to zero and stops. When the brewhead drops to zero, it still steams or froths, just fine. The brewhead gauge is normally at 8 1/2 while pulling a shot, however, occasionally after running for two minutes it drops to 4 and basically stops.

Now, I am used to frothing and pulling at the same time, is there any problem in doing so? Should I get new baskets, or is there some vaccum pump issue present here?

I've cleaned everything several times with the same results.

First, a shot should only take 25-30 seconds. If it's taking 2 minutes to pull a shot, then your grind is much too fine. Adjust your grinder so you're pulling shots in the target range.

After you get the shot time adjusted, see what other problems remain. You can definitely brew and steam at the same time, so that's not a limitation with the Rocket.

You should think of a few basic functions.

#1 Steam volume is relative to two things.
The capacity of the section of the boiler that is not filled with water.
Plus how compressed the steam is, i.e. Pressure.

#2 How fast it drops is relative to the following:
How much pressure there is to start with, i.e your stat setting.
How fast you are letting it out, the size of the holes in your steam tip.
How much volume you have to begin with.

Now another basic physics rule. water expands and contracts when it is heated and cooled.

If you put your machine on a timer, when it first turns on the level probe will call for water until the boiler is filled with water and touches the bottom of the probe. As this water heats it will expand thus decreasing the capacity of the boiler where steam is stored.

Simple thing to try, when you get up in the AM and your machine is up to temp, pull water from your hot water spigot just enough to make it call for water, and let it refill and get back up to pressure. This should give you a little more capacity of steam. When we turn all the machines on in the display room on Monday morning we have to go back an hour later and do that to each machine. It will also give you dryer steam.

With all that said however a machine with such a small boiler, compared to commercial machines, I recommend the stat be set between 1.0 and 1.2. Your setting of .8 to 1.0 is too low not much capacity there. The only down side of a higher setting is slightly longer cooling flushes. On the positive side you gain faster recovery fro your next shot, and more steam capacity.
