Just made it too, the cups have 1/16" of clearance... We made a slight change when the granite when in from a 5/8" plywood underlay to a 1 1/8" underlay (since the island has a 1 foot overhang on toward the windows and we didn't want any chance of this stuff breaking). This brought the counter height slightly higher than initially planned and the upper cabinets were of course in place. If it was any higher, I would be trimming the valence shielding the under cabinet lights by 1/2". :)

The slabs for the island and the counter top are very interesting. Large inclusions of what I think is quartz. Here is a view of it being moving up the side walk by my contractor. It's hard to believe the four of them got the slab up onto the island as it's really heavy.

Mark,
Great space. Beautiful subtle colors in the stone, cabinets and backsplash. The espresso gear is not so bad either :)

Mark,

I just cannot contain myself.. That is an absolutley BEAUTIFUL Kitchen! And the two Elektras give it that special touch. I bet your Elektras smiles all day long, both from being fed great grounds, and for being in such a great spot. I promise Im not tryin to brown nose, that kitchen is just beautiful. I cook for a living, and my new kitchen is being worked on as we speak, so I can appreciate a good kitchen when I see one.

Are you direct plumbed or are you using a flo-jet/bottle setup?

Man you are killing me. I just moved to Philly and my house is not finished yet. Getting granite counters and island as well, oak hardwood floors and cabinets, stainless 5 burner gas cooktop etc... I went with a darker color for the counter tops, it is actually called coffee, go figure. I went with recessed lights and a high ceiling. The contractor just informed me that my October delivery date is now end of November maybe first of December. Not happy about that. So we are stuffed in a little apartment for another couple of months which sucks. Serious envy.

Thanks a bunch, we planned it for a long time, my wife and I sit back and go wow now that it's (mostly) done. From studs until today was exactly 7 weeks. However I won't get to keep all the counter space and I'll be retiring my lever machine (except for special occasions or emergencies).

The space under the sink is very cramped, even with a 36" cabinet there is little room. The deep double sink and garbage disposal take up a lot of room. So instead of my previous 3 regular size filters I'll be looking at one of the more compact models. I'm currently awaiting some of the other members experience with the Everpur Claris filter. I'm directly plumbed 1/2" main to 3/8" JohnGuest fittings. In the mean time I'm using a filter that came with my KitchenAid Convection/Steam oven. I've a pressure reducer after the filter and it then splits to: drinking tap on the counter, steam assisted oven, espresso machine and fridge. I'll have to clean up the lines in under there, but it's been a hectic 7 weeks.

We just finished the pendant lights earlier today. There are still some puck lights for the glass cabinets, but we haven't picked them yet.

I'm in Sunnyvale CA (as you know since you sent me some beautiful wood handles) and we have so little space in our ~50 year old house it's amazing to see new house layouts. Oh for a two car garage a big closets..... So I'm envious of what you are going to have (certainly not what you are currently going through though).

Mark,

Looks great. I have a question about how close to the cabinets above the machine. When they are that close together there must be a heating affect on the cabinet and wonder what affect it can have on warping wood or if you had food in the cabinet, the food would get heated up ??

I too have a cabinet where I can switch my machine to, but decided it was a bad idea, because it was a cabinet full of cereal foods etc. Heat rises and not only that, this is dissipating heat rising so there is some humidity too.

I have about that much space between the top of my Valentina and the cabinet, and the heat definitely warms up the cabinet. Fortunately, the cabinet above the machine holds plates and bowls, so nothing to worry about there. I would say the cabinet and it's contents are a bit over ambient room temp, and I wouldn't store food there.
