2 davidr88: Hello. I see you too, order coffee from has bean :) What is the good one, up to you? I have Cahoeira now, but it is slightly sour, to my tastes.

This is my setup. The grinder is sitting on the counter top out of view. In this pic you can see part of one sensor for water leakage under the machine. There is also another sensor under the sink where the filters are. If there was a leak, the water main would close.

That was the Has Bean premium espresso blend. Are you not using blends for espresso?

For now I am stuck with single origin coffees, but I will try to buy a blend soon. So is that premium espresso blend good? I am looking for not-sour drink, sweet, nutty.

Here's my 'new' setup. After a rather lengthy (maybe lazy) restoration of the Portofino, it is producing tasty espresso. Since I finally got it up and running, I had to find a grinder to go with it. I found this Astoria branded SJ luckily rather quickly and for a decent price.

Here's my former temporary location off the kitchen that was used while finishing the basement.

This was my "plumbing in" of the machine.

Here's the new home.

Behind the bar. On the extreme right is the milk refrigerator. Above the trash can is a tamp shelf.

Plenty of room to add a 2 group Linea. The outlets on the rear of the bar are on a dedicated 20A circuit, the outlets on the front of the bar are on another 20A circuit. The espresso machine is on its own circuit that was run with 10AWG so it can be 30A if needed. There is also a 220V 30A circuit wired for a larger machine in the future. Water supply and drain are, of course, under the counter.

To say "serious" is indeed an understatement, but . . . how do you get behind the bar???

Exactly what I was wondering... Perhaps he's a Dukes of Hazzard fan and just jumps/slides over the counter to enter and exit the bar. :D

I've got five. Okay, they're all hand grinders, but I like to switch beans fairly regularly. On any given day, I might pull shots from two different SO beans and a blend. Having one grinder dialed in for each bean makes it easier.

Or maybe he just likes grinders.

2 Mazzers [sj?] and 1 rancilio rocky

Although changing the grind can be kind of annoying, does that really warrant the need to spend so much money? And for decaf, you could just run one blank shot through to clean out the old caff residue

Not annoying, but it generally takes a few shots to get really dialed in with a stepless grinder (in my experience). Changing beans means changing the grind, and so if you run more than one bean it's really nice to have multiple grinders.

On my espresso bar I have 3, but will soon thin that to 2
Of course I have a few other grinders here too that get used for drip, French Press, vac pot....

In the picture it appears that the bar runs into the wall on the left, but that's where the opening is.

As to the grinders, I started with a Rocky and then got a smoking deal on the Major. When a friend closed his coffee shop I bought two SJs from him, and then loaned him one along with Silvia, so I actually have 4. The Major is my main grinder and the SJ is for "guest" espresso and decaf for guests that so desire. Rocky has stayed in the kitchen to feed the vac pot. It's also used along with a La Pavoni for vacations where it's easy to switch between vac pot and espresso use.

Two Majors and two Rocky's, not to mention three handgrinders. Total cash outlay for all seven; less than five hundred dollars. Two were gifts. And I save money by not throwing ground coffee away... ; >
