I have a Rancilio Silvia PIDed w/a Delta Temperature Controller (Model DTB4824VR). I would be tremendously grateful if anyone could please provide me the appropriate menu settings. Thank you.

Am I correct in assuming that you purchased this Silvia with the PID already installed?

Did you try the "autotune" feature of the controller? A pdf version of the controller manual is available here: http://www.bb-elec.com/bb-elec/literature/manuals/DTB48-TempController-Manual1-3-06.pdf

Thanks so much again Eric. I'm not sure i'm capable of making sense of the manual. At present the PID will not allow the Silvia boiler to heat, regardless where i set the target temp.

OK - that's another problem altogether.

When you hit the brew switch, does water flow out of the grouphead?

Operate the steam switch for, say, one minute. Does the boiler heat up now?

Give us an idea of how technically savvy you are.

sorry to say i'm not too technically savvy. thanks so much for your help. it will take me a bit to run your test but i am virtually certain it will make no difference. I have to swap out the controller for the malfunctioning LOVE that is currently installed (the LOVE allows the boiler to heat but does not allow me to vary the target temperature--the delta came as a replacement). I'll let you know asap.

As you are posting, what controller is installed in Silvia? If it is the Delta, shut the machine down and reinstall the Love. The only wires you need to be careful about are the + and - wires going to the solid state relay (SSR). These need to be correctly attached.

Does the machine at least heat up now? If so, to what temperature? Other than not being adjustable, is everything else OK?

1. i am able to swap controllers w/o changing wiring.

2. Yes everything else is ok w/the love other than not being adjustable.

3. Flipping the steam switch heats up the boiler (at least according to the temp reading on the controller).

sorry, re #3: i'm referring to the Delta controller--it heats up w/steam switched but not otherwise (as far as i can tell).

Seeing that the heating element works when the steam is called for is good news.

The Delta controller needs to be configured for the type of sensor you are using (presumably either a type T or type K thermocouple) and the output mode (switching an SSR). Yes there are other settings but these two would at least get you going. When you "swap out" controllers, you (obviously) need to detach some wires from the Love and connect them to the appropriate terminals on the Delta. Make sure you made these connections correctly, especially the SSR + and - terminals.

If you are sure you have done all this, the Delta controller is faulty and I would contact the provider of same.
