Pasquini Livia 90 brew pressure problem

Postby Jlbwilson on Thu Mar 24, 2011 9:18 pm

My pasquini machine won't create pressure when I load it with espresso. When I start to pull a shot it automatically back flushes
It will steam and create hot water, but there seems to be no pressure associated with a shot pull.
Any insight?

You lost me there. Would you post a video?

. . . but there seems to be no pressure associated with a shot pull.

Will water flow out of the grouphead with an empty portafilter in place or no portafilter in place? If so, how much water in, say, 30 seconds?

If no water flows out of the grouphead, you have a failed or stuck brew solenoid valve or solenoid valve coil.

Funny I just worked on a livia 90... The solenoid valve on the machine I worked on had been replaced 5 times in the last 10 years, that's excessive, and after taking apart the solenoid assembly I see why, they are smaller, poorly designed and not very durable. Scale buildup inside solenoid valve?? As previously mentioned... Check solenoid first.

Jono brought his Livia to our regular Friday get-together at Counter Culture Coffee's espresso lab in Durham. I confirmed the evacuation solenoid is the source of the buzzing sound. It may be stuck, it may be a short in the coil. He plans to disassemble/clean it and if that doesn't correct the problem, replace it.

cool! Have you personally experienced significant problems with solenoids in these machines?

No, but it wasn't hard to diagnosis once we took off the covers.
