When I first did that I thought it was an electrically conductive paste, but that turns out not to be the case after looking into it further.

My guess is it keeps dissimilar metals from corroding when in contact. If that's the case petroleum jelly would probably work too.
Crap! Mine is exhibiting the on/off sensor issue pretty consistently now. Was going to pick some of the Arctic Silver 5 today and was hoping that would solve the problem, but if not conductive, I'm not sure it will....wonder if the fine sandpaper mentioned a couple pages back is a better option?

I have fixed this issue by pushing the metal tabs (that press against the tank) inward a bit so that when the tank is put back, there is more pressure against the metal screws on the tank. This seems to have fixed it (for nearly a year so far); now every time I wash the tank (couple of months), I push the tabs inward slightly before putting the tank. It may not work forever (I assume at some point the tension may not be enough?), but doesn't require any mods.

FWIW, I pushed the tabs in slightly and fired it up. Problem seems to be fixed, so potentially just a tension/contact issue. It did seem to start when our weather got colder and was possibly enough to contract the metal parts so the connection wasn't great.

I'll see what happens tomorrow morning....I did drop $10 on the paste but may not even need to try it.

Scratch that....fired it up this morning and the on/off water sensor issue resumed. Pulled the tank and put a dab of the Arctic Silver paste on the screws on each side of the tank and the issue stopped happening. Whether that is due to the paste or the reseating of the water tank, who knows.

Will keep my eye on it the next few days, but hoping the silver particles in the paste have improved the conductivity and solved the issue.

Yeah, my Strega has been working great without any issue since I put Arctic Silver paste on my tank contacts a couple of years ago. Works for me, although I'll admit I haven't tested the conductivity of the product. My guess is it inhibits corrosion at the point of contact. Who knows... :?:

That seems to work

I use two table spoons citirc acid per liter water. There are lots of descaling instructions, use the search function. For the Strega, if you want to siphon the descaler in and out of the boiler, use the tap for the steam wand; it has a larger hole than the one for the vacuum breaker.

You need to study the descaling instructions, or ask someone to help.
