Does this machine have an opv (distinct from the expansion valve)? Maybe it is stuck closed, leading to overpressure, and horrid espresso....

Give the opv a whack, and/or disassemble and clean it, if there is one.

I cannot find in the parts list an OPV. Here is what I have:

Okay, now I'm at a place I can look at the diagrams...
Well, it appears that this machine has no way of really adjusting the brew pressure.

Here's a thread which may help...
