New La Marzocco Linea 1 group w/ factory PID?

Postby duke-one on Thu Aug 11, 2011 4:31 pm

Hello: From what I've read in the past 1gr Linea's did not have factory PID, either as an option or standard. Now I've heard different: single group semi-auto with factory PID and single group auto; factory PID in the next batch. Anyone know if this is so?

To answer my own question: yes all new Lineas will have factory PID:
"All production Lineas going forward will come with this digital temperature controller:
LMUSA"
I don't know how many HB'ers care about this and it will cut into the after market parts world a bit but does anyone think this will make a significant difference in how a Linea functions? Some have said here that it is not that stable a machine compared to the Speedster, Cyncra type offerings, will this change that viewpoint?

I've had a couple of year's experience with PID and can say my little single group Linea is very temp stable once I figured out my pre-shot ritual. It's very easy to add PID to older Lineas and most I have seen have been modded to include PID. However, newer machines are more temp stable because they preheat the incoming brew water by running a path through the steam boiler to minimize the changes in the brew boiler. I don't think the Linea will ever be able to compete with this but I've had tremendous shots from Lineas so I'm not sure very tight temp stability is required. What I want, temp profile consistency, is attainable with the Linea/PID. From temp consistency standpoint, I think the Linea competes favorably, from an aesthetic standpoint however, the Linea's look is dated.
