Somehow I think you'll be disappointed with anything but fresh ground espresso. Might not be as critical with pre-ground French Press, though. I'm thinking less surface area means less aging. Then you could use our matching coffee press. I hear the Baratza Vario does a very good job with Press (don't know, I only use mine for espresso

) Not the joy of espresso in the backcountry, but maybe the next best thing.
