Mypressi TWIST with ESE pods

OK, nobody kill me for asking this.

I am planning on buying one of these for backcountry skiing. I climb mountains and ski from the top in the winter, spring, early summer and fall. I ski year round and always carry a jetboil camping stove so always have a way to boil water. Dealing with grounds though in the wild will be too much of a pain. So here is my question: ESE pods+ mypressi, is it worth it for backcountry espresso? How many people here have used ESE pods with their mypressi? Is it any good at all? Will I get any crema?

Right now while Im skiing I usually drink Starbucks Via instant coffee mixed with oregon powdered chai tea and its decent but not really, so the mypressi seems like an awesome idea if I wont hate the espresso that I would get from using pods from a brand like starbucks or Illys. I wonder how much cold temperatures will effect how well I could preheat the unit if at all and if that would make or break the espresso? Just trying to get a feel as to if its worth it or not before I drop $130.

I actually just bought a box of ESE pods to try in a machine I have at the office as an experiment. I will try one in my TWIST this weekend and post an update.

I tried an Illy ESE pod with the Mypressi today. It was not good. Little crema, less taste. Maybe could work as an Americano. This is not what one should use this machine for.

thanks for the taste test, I appreciate the opinion and that was my suspicion as well. Now I just have to figure out if there is a good way to pre grind the night before and somehow not get myself too messy dealing with grinds in the middle of nowhere...

Pre-ground the day before would have to be better than what I got with the pod...not ideal though. You could bring a hand grinder with you though.

Bless you, my son (yeah I'm affiliated.)

Somehow I think you'll be disappointed with anything but fresh ground espresso. Might not be as critical with pre-ground French Press, though. I'm thinking less surface area means less aging. Then you could use our matching coffee press. I hear the Baratza Vario does a very good job with Press (don't know, I only use mine for espresso :D ) Not the joy of espresso in the backcountry, but maybe the next best thing.
