Mypressi Twist V2 Loses Pressure

Postby ptrck2184 on Sat Feb 26, 2011 8:49 am

Help!

I recently purchased a v2 Mypressi Twist and have really enjoyed using it; however, lately, when I install a new cartridge and test the gas pressure, almost no air comes out. The handle starts to feel very cold, and when I remove the cartridge it is almost entirely coated in "ice".

Obviously, I cannot make espresso anymore because the gas does not create enough pressure to extract the coffee.

Does anyone know what could be causing the lack of airflow? I have tried several gas cartridges (the ones supplied by Mypressi) and the same thing keeps happening.

Has this happened to anyone else? Ideas?

Check to see whether the little "o" ring at the bottom by the handle has popped out.

Hello Brendan, my guess that it could be cause by the non-standard N2O cartridge.
Yours could be shorter than the average spec, so the gas was leaking.
The cold handle is the main symptom of this failure.
Try to switch to a different brand of N2O.

On version 1.0 like mine this case is quite common, but I think there already some improvement made on the cartridge cap for version 2.0
There use to be a discussion about it on http://help.mypressi.com/discussions/problems/6-pressure-doesnt-last-long, but I cannot found that link anymore.
my sole obsession : "to make espresso that everybody loves" NOT "to make everybody loves my espresso"

Brendan, please send an email to support@mypressi.com and we'll repair or exchange your unit. The problem you've experienced is related to lubrication in the main regulator, but it's not something that can be corrected in the field. It was adjusted in later shipments, but a small number of earlier units can experience this. By the way, the reason the cartridge gets cold is because v2 units are very good at not leaking any gas at all, so when you undo the end cap all the gas is released over a short period of time, expanding into the handle and causing the freezing effect.

Best regards,
Stephen

Hi,

I'm experiencing exactly this exact same problem. I bought the unit in October 2010 (which I had shipped from to the UK from a US company) - when I pull the trigger either none, or hardly any air is released, but then when I let go of the trigger air is released from the side of the machine, and then on removing it, the gas cartridge is covered in ice. I don't think it's over use or anything, because I only use it occasionally (I've probably only pulled about 200 shots from it in 14 months).

Does anybody have any idea on how I could attempt a repair? I really enjoyed using the machine, and it's a shame it's stopped working as it was useful for when I was travelling away etc.

Any advice appreciated!
Joe

Given the post directly above yours I would contact that poster at mypressi directly - looks like they might replace it. I've had great warranty service from mypressi.

Hi Hperry - I've since been contacted by Stephen (just a few hours ago), and he's offered to ship me a new unit which is really good of him and the company.
