Mypressi Twist - Page 3

Postby mypressi on Sat Apr 25, 2009 1:15 pm

The TWIST will be out in the fall. The cartridges will retail for about half a dollar and each one makes approximately 8 single or 4 double shots. (A double is a little over 3oz.)

The cartridges are 100% pure steel, and fully recyclable. In fact, we'll be running a paid "Back to base" recycling program, so all you need to do is drop the used ones into a pouch and put them in the mail.

And then what do you do with all the cartridges that you amass during a 3 week trip to a remote destination? Do they become landfill and another part of the problem or are they recyclable?

Well, the 11 dollars is for 24 refills in the link from espressme. Also, you can buy a huge 600 pack from amazon for 200 dollars. So, that's 30 cents for 1 refill thing. A lot less than $11. And since the things are from steel, they get scooped up by a big magnet and recycled if you put them in the thrash. Maybe the mypressi guys could also bend their heads around a pneumatically operated grinder.

Do they only get one shot out of each cartridge?

Sorry, I must of missed that, and I apologize if I sounded like I was dissin. I genuinely was looking for clarification because I want something to travel with to places like Costa Rica especially if it can be paired with something like the Kyocera hand grinder.

Based on the videos Orphan posted on Youtube with their Kyocera hand grinder, it looks like it would work really well.

I swear if I traveled for work, I'd be all over this setup. Kind of expensive to do a couple shots a day at work. (The french press is just fine)

Not quite portable, as a suitable grinder is still required, but yes, it cuts down on about 70 - 100lbs of machine weight. I had the chance to drink some at the SCAA Expo, and was quite impressed - very close to the real thing.

Here's an idea: what about having somewhat of a "saturated grouphead" concept - to fill the water chamber, place it in a boiler with a precise temperature set (surfing the temperature of an electric kettle should work as long as you have an accurate probe, right?). Having soaked the water chamber (upside down) in the water at the correct temperature for your beans (say, 200F), you remove it (filled with water, lifting straight up), cap it, and extract as soon as possible. Then adjust starting temperature to take temperature drift (between removal from the kettle to actual brewing) into account.

My first reaction, when watching this video, was:

"DAMN THAT'S COOL. I DON'T NEED ONE BUT I WANT ONE."

Can CO2 cartridges be taken on planes? No. Missed the earlier post. Have to buy local.

Odds are you can also find a local source selling smaller quantities for far less than $11 each. One shop in Houston sells 10 packs for $7.58.
