My Vibiemme Domobar Super... getting quieter

Postby Randy G. on Thu Jan 29, 2009 5:03 pm

It is not a great priority for me at the moment, so when I get a spare second or have things apart I chase another noise. You might remember my velcro fix that worked so well around the warming tray, the reservoir, and the reservoir platform. That worked real well. How well recently became apparent. I noticed a recent "new" vibratory noise and when I became a bit more conscious of it I traced it down to.. It was the intake filter screen on the end of the pump's suction hose. I rerouted the hose so that it pushed the screen against the reservoir to hold it in place under some pressure from the hose itself and the noise went away!

So.. if you hear a sound that reminds you of a plastic part, under water, rattling against another plastic part... well, you know the rest. :P

If you're getting down to the filter buzzing, it must be pretty quiet for a vibration pump.

The loudest noise on my machines is the OPV... and I'm workin' on it

Loudest part on my machine is the coffee dripping into the cup, or the solenoid going click when it activate the pump. When Elektra says 'whisper quiet', they are not kidding.

I took the plastic filter/softener off the intake line on my VBM.

Bad idea to remove that filter. It's there to keep crud out of the pump and check valves.
You can probably run safely without it, but why take chances?

IF that, I walked away from your machine with a serious case of envy mumbling to myself, "that's a heck of a lot quieter than my rotary!".

Elektra calls it a whisper quiet pump and it really is. The brew pressure gauge makes more noise when it flutters.

The VBM, my error. As I sit here thinking about it again, that little screen is still on the supply line. I was thinking of my old Isomac which had one of the resin bead softeners on it. That aside, I am not sure how you would get anything in the tank for it to be sucked into the pump. The tank has a closed top on it with just a tiny vent hole, the supply and OPV return lines seal with the tank. You would have to work hard at getting anything in it.
