I don't have a visual of the Linea drip tray in my mind, but I usually go to a Dremel tool with a cut-off wheel when I want to trim metal. Not always the prettiest, mind you, and you'll have to be careful to make sure you trim it evenly and wear safety glasses, but it should get the job done if your dead set on it.
When I pull an Americano for the Wife on my La Peppina, I pull the drip tray lid out and rest the cup in the bottom of the drip reservoir of the base, but the La Peppina has a closed drip pan at the bottom with a grate covering it unlike most espresso machines. Even when I do this, I still have to tilt the cup to get it under the portafilter spouts, and making the La Peppina bottomless means that you lose the handle since it attaches to the spouts and not the basket holder.
