Low steam pressure on Livia 90

Postby adeveny on Wed May 11, 2011 2:11 pm

Hello, new poster here. I have a Livia 90 that's 5 or so years old. Just within the last few days the steam pressure has dropped so much that it's essentially impossible to create foam. As far as I can tell everything else is working fine except it's time to replace the group gasket again. I'm not a super-perfectionist so if the espresso quality is down a little I might not notice. In fact, my "latte" with the milk hot but not foamy tastes great. What can I do to get this working again? Thanks in advance!

When was the last time you descaled the boiler and heat exchanger? Have you removed the tip from the steam wand and checked the holes for obstructions? Those tips need removed and soaked in cleaner and the holes poked with a pen now and then to keep them clean. What pressure is the boiler set at?

Thanks for the reply. The tip is pretty clean. I know to keep on that. I have no idea what pressure the boiler is set at. I didn't know I could change it. But perhaps descaling is the answer. I had read something about not descaling this kind of machine so I didn't worry about it. But I have read otherwise in these forums recently. I will search for instructions on how to do that and try it. Thanks again.
