Linea Waking from Hibernation Hints

Postby craigk on Wed Dec 24, 2008 2:27 am

Howdy,

I recently picked up a 2003 Linea 1av from a props warehouse in Burbank. I don't think it saw much action but I am a little frightened that Jesse James and the Monster Garage hoped to make 10,000 capps/minute then realized the impossibility using a manually tamped portafilter. They did make a few mods that I'll probably want to rectify. Including what I believe to be an extra pump for the steam wand and a MF'ing Blowtorch attached to a propane tank! Totally not joking. It even came with some 7 pounds of vintage Klatch coffee. Talk about crimes against coffee!

Can someone offer advice for me to ensure the machine ain't broke? To begin with, it was stored with water in the boilers. How do I empty the boilers? Remove the heating elements and check for scale? Any other advice for an absolute beginner to La Marzocco ownership maintenance? I must admit that while we run a Linea at work, I do not take it apart since it isn't mine to futz with.

If any Monster Garage fans out there can share the story, I'd love to hear it.

Thanks!

Welcome to HB and congrats on your find!

I am sure everyone is going to be envious AFTER you are finished with the re-build

Since this is your first post - it is always worthwhile to do a search before asking for advice. One of the experiences I've made is that it is hard to be original as far as problems go

Check out this thread:

Particularly Paul's site contains loads of information on LM (also 1 group) restorations. Remember to take a LOT of pictures when you take her apart and - post about your progress

Good luck!

I think I remember that episode. If I recall, they eventually used the machine as an anchor for a boat! In salt water!

It must not have made it to air as I know I have seen every episode of that show and don't ever recall a Linea!
