The pump is a fluidotech PA01504 http://www.fluidotech.it/Pages/en_po_500_1000.aspx . I have to check the motor when I'm at home.

Well, with the bypass completely shut (typical factory test point condition), that pump flows 184 l/hour or 3067 ml/minute at a 9.0 bar setpoint. I'd say that the bypass is quite active with your machine and with anyone else's. :)

It does appear to be the specified pump for your machine and the very high flow capacity is meant to minimize shot pressure variations when a boiler fill signal occurs at this "inopportune" time.

Hmm, is there a way to adjust the bypass? Tr

If you simply press the continuous brew button and adjust the pressure regulating screw (bypass) on the pump to show a pressure of 9.0 bar while the water is flowing, you will be "in heaven". As I type, yours appears to be correctly set.

2887 ml/min are bypassed within the pump itself from the discharge side back to the suction side at a discharge pressure of ~ 9.0 bar when brewing espresso. The numbers are, of course, subject to normal production tolerances and brew preferences - say +/- 5%.
