Hi everybody,

I would like to know what the result/effect of the changes made to the LM GS/3 steam boiler assembly for the serial numbers 1170 and up is? The changes can be seen here on page 7: http://lamarzoccousa.com/docs/gs3/gs3-parts-catalog.pdf

My GS/3 paddle has the S/N 10xx and I would like to know if it is worth having the changes made with my next service together with the upgrade to the "PI paddle" described in another thread.

Thanks in advance and best regards
Ian

The advantage of the vacuum breaker update is to help keep moisture out of the inside of the machine during warmup, which can potentially enter the brain and cause damage. It's a worthwhile upgrade in terms of prevention, but won't affect the machine in terms of function. LM recommends that this upgrade be done, as brains are expensive.

Cheers,
Chris

In addition, see this for an excellent writeup on the task - Updating the La Marzocco GS/3 vacuum breaker .

Concuring wholeheartedly w/ Chris, it is a most positive upgrade - I have applied it to several non LM machines.
