Your copper washer has been severely crushed. The nominal dimensions on these washers are 10 x 6 mm. Find a friendly German car parts shop and buy a couple of spares. Mercedes-Benz dealers would have them in stock by the hundreds.

went back and re-read some older threads: was this bleed problem related to the o-ring problem that some gs3 owners battled or is it a different issue?

erics: it no longer leaks, so i'm assuming i can leave it alone until it leaks again. no?

If it no longer leaks, then I would leave it alone but that should not deter you from locating a spare or two.

A while back, well, maybe a long while back, some automobile mfgs supplied an "emergency" spares kit with each vehicle. It might be a good idea to come up with a list of such parts for the GS3 and put them away for that rainy day.

Sam, the two spare sealing washers were included with my new GS3, possibly look in the plumb-in pieces if you have not opened that package (assuming you may be running off the tank).

If it is sealed now, of course just leave it be.

Further, there is no reason to drain the brew boiler unless it might be exposed to freezing temperatures or it will sit for months or years on end. Otherwise, just leave it turned off without draining it. You can always replace the water in it by flushing it out through the group. If you don't drain the boiler there will be no need to release and retighten the bleed screw.

You know, I always wondered why one can't on paddle GS/3 simply move paddle to line pressure and bleed the group. Anyone knows?

When you remove the bleed screw, you are taking air out of the top most part of the grouphead. If you only open the normal water flow, there can still be air where the arrow is pointing.

yes. i almost threw them out. also, the lock tabs underneath the drip tray each use 3 copper washers to bolt onto the the bottom of the tray (can't imagine why 3). perhaps they are cannibalizable.
